The Concordians was formed as a result of an idea of former Assistant Medical Director, Dr Sue Liew and Ms Yvonne Eade, past Director of Nutrition and Dietetics. It was thought that an association could be formed, independent of the Hospital, which would bring together past and present staff of the hospital to share and exchange experiences in a collegial, supportive and relaxed atmosphere.
An inaugural meeting was held on 15 July 1993 whereby a ‘caretaker’ executive committee was elected until the formal committee was established at the Annual General Meeting. The Concordians always remind us of our rich heritage. The culture of the hospital, typified by compassion, camaraderie, professionalism, mutual support and respect, which has grown from the values of our first patients who were serving members, and their carers.
Activities of the Association are guided by this mission. The group cherish the strong links with the Australian Armed Services and its Veterans, a legacy predominant in the hospital’s history. The Concordians also support the collection and display of material that illustrates the wonderful history of the hospital. When finances allow, the Concordians make valuable contributions (subject to members’ approval) towards a worthy cause at the hospital. The Concordians’ is a Not Profit Incorporated Association.
